A New Engine for the 2018 Fair

Burrell 3413 built 1912 delivered new to W Smith Southampton to transport his traveling fair. Named "The Philadelphia" as Mr Smith was now independent of using horses and America announced Independence in Philadelphia
It worked in the traveling fair until 1944.

The engine was commandeered by the war office in 1944 and allocated to a contractor in Gussage All Saints Dorset he used it mainly for threshing.

Bought in 1999 by John Newton from the barn it was storage in for 50 years, the last original showman's Burrell to enter preservation.

Restored to as new condition over a 6 year period Mr Newton is no longer able to look after the engine and the family wanted it to go to a good home, it now belongs to Alistair Evans of Bishops Castle who is a great supporter of the Fair
